How can you move with multiple bodies as one? Discover it at COMMUNITAS, a new work by Katja Heitmann. COMMUNITAS emerges from the Motus Mori archive for human movement. In this multi-year project, Katja collaborates with an increasingly larger group of movement archivists

She collects and preserves movements from people of all ages, bodies, and backgrounds. More than 1900 people have donated their personal movements to this embodied archive. Based on this archive, the choreographer continually creates new artworks. COMMUNITAS is created with autodidactic movers and dance students from Fontys.

In the midst of everyday reality, 16 performers between the ages of 20 and 75 exchange their personal movements. They support and follow each other's movements until a collective body emerges. COMMUNITAS brings together 6 autodidactic movers and 10 academic dance students from Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts in a moving theatrical ritual. Accompanied by bubbles of spatial sound, they form ritual islands of focus and dedication.

Theaterkrant – Critics' Choice: "Heitmann has a mission! Undoubtedly. In Motus Mori, she returns the body to a society that risks losing sight of its value. Art cannot be more urgent." (Moos van den Broek, 2023)
