Start of construction of sustainable distribution centre De Bijenkorf in Tilburg
Ingram Micro commissioned the construction of a 41,553 m² distribution centre for the Bijenkorf in Tilburg. The building will be located on the Zevenheuvelenweg in the Kraaiven industrial estate. The distribution centre will open in mid-2019 and will gradually create hundreds of extra jobs.
Bijenkorf and Ingram Micro have extended their partnership by 10 years. As part of this partnership, Ingram Micro will both send the parcels to the webshop customers in the Netherlands and Belgium and supply the seven Bijenkorf stores. At present, Bijenkorf still has two distribution centres for this. More than 14,000,000 items a year will be shipped from the new premises with a surface area of 41,553 m² by 2020.
BREEAM
Ingram Micro has signed an agreement with HVBM Vastgoed for the realisation and rental of the new distribution centre. The aim is that the building complies with the international BREEAM standard 'Outstanding'. This is reflected, among other things, in the energy-efficient and gas-free climate installation (full electric) and the application of sustainable lighting.
Employment
The new distribution centre will have a positive effect on employment and the local economy. In the future, hundreds of jobs will be created in Tilburg and the surrounding area. The number of jobs is expected to grow in phases in the coming years from 300 to 600 employees. The recruitment of new employees has already started and will expand in the coming months.
