Parking building Zwijsen

Parking building Zwijsen firstly meets the parking needs for Zwijsen I and Zwijsen II: two new residential areas north of the railway, next to Central Station and the monumental Polygonal shed.

The Spoorzone, right behind Tilburg central station, was once the focal point for maintenance and repair of locomotives and wagons in factories, sheds and workshops around a network of tracks. For about a decade now, this former industrial area has been making the turn into an urban centre for art, culture, entrepreneurship and living. Respect for the past runs like a thread through the gradual area transformation.

Existing buildings in the Spoorzone, often exponents of the industrial architecture of the first decades of the last century, are given a new function after careful renovation or upgrading (think of the LocHal). New buildings in the zone keep the memory of the historic old building active through striking similarities in main form, use of materials, expression and atmosphere. Such as parking building Zwijsen, a design by Vissers & Roelands architects. Besides parking, the building, with a total length of some 230 m and a height of 18 m, acts as a noise barrier along the railway track.
