Art commission renovated Stadswinkel
Are you an artist? Then the municipality of Tilburg has a great art assignment for you. They are looking for an artist to design and create a work of art for the renovated Stadswinkel on Koningsplein. The renewed Stadswinkel will be right in the centre of town. The old building has been completely gutted and rebuilt from concrete shell. The aim is to start using the renewed City Shop in the summer of 2023. It will be a place that connects, where the municipality, residents, entrepreneurs and partners can meet and work together. The City Store fits within the vision of the innovative city: approachable, transparent and sustainable.
Art in the atrium
The architectural design of the public area in the City Store is ready. Within this design is space for figurative art focused on the present. The municipality is looking for an iconic work of art that symbolises, questions or reflects Tilburg's present. Here, art can steer the nature of the conversation. The artwork should match the architecture and function of the space. The artwork also engages with the public zone and the work floors above. The artwork will be a suspended object in the atrium.
Take part
Take part and respond with a short, clear vision of the commission. Answer the question what motivates you to participate in this assignment: do you get excited about Tilburg? And would you enjoy the challenge of creating this iconic work of art as an artist for the renewed Stadswinkel? Give a clear explanation as to why you are best suited to design a new art object for the Stadswinkel. A maximum of 3 artists will be selected from the responses. We will then ask them to make a sketch design and present it. A fee of EUR 2,500 per artist is available for this. From these sketch designs, the municipality will select 1 artist to submit a final design.
Art in the Town Hall
In the housing vision, the City Hall is the place where the past and the future meet. The revamped City Store focuses more on today. In the City Hall, there is a lot of art in and around the building. Tilburg artists in particular were given space there. Learn more about that art at stadhuistilburg.thuisbekijken.nl.
Request official documents
Are you interested in creating the artwork for the renovated Stadswinkel? Then request the documents from the Municipality of Tilburg, Legal Affairs Department, Advice and Legal Protection Team via the mail address: aanbestedingen@tilburg.nl, stating 'Art commission renewed Stadswinkel'. You can apply for the selection phase until Friday 10 March 2023.
Information meeting
An (Dutch) information meeting about this art commission will be held on Tuesday evening, 14 February, at 18:30 at City Hall. You can register for this until 12:00 noon on 13 February at the latest via the e-mail address werkeninverbinding@tilburg.nl.
