Happy Bachdag Tilburg

On Johann Sebastian Bach's birthday on March 21, we will celebrate Happy Bach Day in Tilburg! This day the entire city will be dedicated to Bach, at more than 15 unexpected places and moments you can be surprised by Bach's music. Bach's music is characterized by recognition and comfort. Even if you have never heard his music before, it immediately feels familiar and close. Beautiful to color your day with on Thursday, March 21.

For starters, we have hijacked the station piano in entirely Tilburg fashion! Anyone may take a seat behind the piano in the hall of the station to play Bach's music all day this day from 7 am. Throughout the day, professional and amateur musicians will connect and perform Bach at the station.

From 7am to 9pm, the Carillon (a.k.a. the Clothespin) in the station's bell tower will also play along.

From 10 am the Kessels Museum will open for the day. You will find our milling musicians, but also a concert by Odette Kolen-Van de Korput in which she shows the difference between traverso, Kessels flute and flute (13.45-14.45h). In the afternoon, starting at 2 p.m., you can hear Bach in downtown at a number of stores: His Royal Highness, Amazing Projects, Atelier Fijngoud, Superfly, Livius/de Zevensprong and Dille & Kamille will open their doors to the Happy Bach Day musicians.

Our milling musicians can also be found at the Werkcafé of the Municipality of Tilburg between 12h and 13h and at 16h. And this year, for the first time, Cinecitta is also participating in the day .

Want to join? You can!

For amateur musicians and professionals who want to join, there is plenty to do. From 2pm to 3:30pm Bach and Mendelssohn Chorales will be sung in the Paulus Church. Want to join? Send an email with your voice type to: Frank Hermans.

Pianists who have always dreamed of playing on an organ? Grab your chance! From 2:45pm to 5pm, organist Rob Nederlof will give the free workshop Bach Authentic on organ for (amateur) pianists. Sign up via a message at this email address.

Want to learn more about Bach's Arias? Frank Hermans and Rob Nederlof will give a master class at the Hill Church from 5:15pm to 6:15pm. For professionals and music students, but the public is certainly welcome too.

We will also treat children and their teachers to a musical interlude at a number of primary and secondary schools in Tilburg. And we can be seen and heard in the Elisabeth Tweesteden Hospital.

In The Black Box of Tilburg University's Esplanada building, you can enjoy a concert by percussionist Gonçalo Reis from 4:45 p.m. onwards.

The Happy Bach Day will conclude in the Paulus Church on Tuesday with an organ concert by top musicians Rob Nederlof (city organist) together with Lex Bergink (hobo). The concert is from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is again free to all. Be welcome!
